AGE UK Print E-mail

Dear Mrs Stanley,

I hope you and your loved ones are alright in these strange times. It feels like a different world to just a couple of months ago – not just for older people but for all of us here at Age UK as well.

As this situation develops we’re constantly reviewing how older people are affected and what most urgently needs to change. I’m so grateful to every one of you who’s been in touch to tell us about what you’re struggling with, and I want to assure you that we’re doing everything we can to make sure the Government listens to and acts on your concerns.

Our work to protect the interests of older people has never felt more crucial, and because of your input we’re currently focusing our time and energy on:

  • Working with the Government to find a way for all older people to get their food shopping safely, without having to go online.

  • Calling out age discrimination in health policies, to make sure that age alone is never used as a basis to restrict treatment or to propose do-not-resuscitate orders.

  • Fighting for better PPE and testing in social care settings, to save the lives of older people and the staff that care for them.

  • Putting pressure on banks and The Post Office to make sure older people are able to access cash, despite being told to stay indoors.

You can read more about the progress we’ve made on these issues in our latest blog. With your support we’re making a real impact, and we’ll keep pushing for these changes until we win.

I will be in touch soon with more news, including an update on how we’re tackling loneliness. In the meantime, please stay safe and remember you can call our free advice line if you need support – it’s open 8am to 7pm every day on 0800 169 65 65.

Best wishes,

Eorann
