Following the government’s decision to extend the lockdown, we’re sharing advice on how to stay active and healthy, as well as what we’ve been doing to continue to support those who rely on our services. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to continue our work, and your wellbeing matters during these challenging times.

Staying active and healthy at home
Looking after your physical and mental health is even more important with restrictions on movement and social distancing. If you are looking for advice on keeping active while staying home and staying safe, check out our resources on the website.

Download the COVID Symptom Tracker app
We’ve joined several UK leading charities promoting a coronavirus symptom tracker app developed by Kings College London and health science company ZOE. For this vital research to build an accurate picture of the virus, we urgently need more over-70s, including people with underlying health conditions, to take part in this study and self-report.

For over-70s without access to a smartphone, family, friends or carers can log daily health reports on their behalf. Please take part or help us to promote this vital research if you can

Home Truths – keeping mentally healthy
As part of our Home Truths series, Christine writes about keeping mentally healthy during the coronavirus lockdown. You can read Christine’s blog here. If you, or someone you know, needs support with their mental health, we have a list of resources available on our website or please call our helpline on 0800 319 6789.

Take on the 2.6 Challenge
This Sunday, to mark what would have been the London Marathon– the world’s biggest one-day fundraising event– the 2.6 Challenge aims to plug the funding gap for UK charities. Can you take on a challenge and raise money to support our vital services? Design your own challenge related to the numbers 2.6 or 26 and sign up today!

I’d like to end this week’s email by saying a huge thank you to everyone involved in helping us to campaign for fair treatment for older people, and to provide local support for older relatives, neighbours and friends across the UK. I’d also like to thank everyone signing up to events like the 2.6 Challenge, and those who’ve shared helpful tips and suggestions we can share with others during these challenging times.

Wishing you a safe and healthy week ahead,

Deborah Alsina MBE
Chief Executive
